September has been a busy month...

3 shows in 3 weeks was not something on my bucket list for 2022. And painting for 2 days after a mammoth 5 days of set up, show and pack down of Art In The Park, is not something I would recommend! But by all accounts it well worth the effort.

Art In The Park

With 10,000 visitors over 3 and half days, it was another fantastic show at Eden Park Stadium this year. There was something for everyone with a diverse range of art and creators present.

Made possible by his two children working with the curation team, we were blessed and in awe to have the work of the late Tim Wilsons on show at Art In the Park this year. The light and mood of the landscapes he was able to create are almost ethereal and unmistakeable. It's breathtaking work. He had true talent not many of us can hope to reach our lifetime. A privilege to see it in real life and a truly wonderful addition to the show.

Conversations with engaged folks, public and artists alike was an absolute highlight for me. My fellow artists were the loveliest people and we all helped each other out where we could. Lots of tips & tricks were shared and the camaraderie was palpable. So much so that I named one of my painting for the next in the trio (of shows) after them all!

"Camaraderie" is in the group show called "The Happiness Project" on till Sept 28th at Turua Gallery, St Heliers, along with her baby sister "Tropicana". Hopefully both spreading a bit of joy and happiness in these strange times.

You can check both of these paint babies out on my Painting Page on my website or on www.turuagallery.co.nz or at the lovely welcoming Turua Gallery, Tuesday to Sunday.

A lovely little story for you ...

My four Tiny works for the annual Turua Tiny Show sold last week. An elderly gentleman, in his 80's I'm told, came into the gallery while his dear wife was out for the day.

It was her Birthday, and he was looking excitedly for a a suitable gift for her special day. He spied my "Postcard from The Pacific I, II, III & IV" and bought all four, for his love.

Now this lovely man had walked down the pretty steep hill into St. Heliers (no longer able to drive) and he was still pretty puffed when he went to leave again. So the Lovely Liss, after safely packaging up his little surprise, also delivered him safely home.

Now, isn't that the most divine story. And this my friends is why I paint. The whole thing to me, is about connection; the connection of ideas, of memories, shared nostalgia, connection to place, community and those special family members and friends that grace our lives along the way. And water, always water!
