A bit about her current work....
Sarah’s work delves into human psychology, the bonds that tie, the subtlety of relationships and memories created along the way.
The light and shadow play in her work expresses the inevitable opposites, these contradictions in us all, the qualities that make us human.
In her still life work she paints motifs; vessels, fabrics, objects (often gifts or inherited treasures), gathered flowers or fallen flora to conjure memories of joy,
for the little things, connections and memories. Her work reminding us to retain the rituals in daily life that bring some certainty and provide a kind of mediation, a moment to stand still. Hope & joy are often found in the little things and can help to pull us out of the darkness when things are tough.
"Life will throw down curveballs but hope and courage build our resilience to defy what tried to defeat us. Without darkness the beauty of the light would not be so joyous".
In Sarah’s portrait and landscape work she continues this theme; subtly bringing together moments of shared experience; the joy of a treasured holiday, a memory of a person or place. Her hope; to create a snapshot; preserving the essence of a person, a time, a special childhood moment, a landscape or built environment we can relate to.
“These moments and the subsequent memories they create, give us strength, grounding and community, a place that feels ours, in this chaotic world."
